Huge hockey fan from the UK, unfortunately, it was Canucks I chose for my lifelong affiliation. Proudest honour in life was to shake hands with The Great One. Easy enough to spot, the only one in T.O who wears a Vancouver jersey!

The USA prospects shone brightly during their 3-2 win over Russia at Air Canada Centre. Dominant in the first two periods, after goals from Clayton Keller and Colin White the Americans, looked set for a big win. KHL player Kirill Urakov had previously tied the game after a slightly fortunate goal during the first. Anaheim Ducks prospect Troy Terry put the USA firmly in control midway through the second period. However, top scorer Kirill Kaprizov tipped in Yegor Rykov’s shot with 2:43 left to make it 3-2. After struggling early finally in the third period, Russia, at last, came to life. Due to the goodRead More →

Arizona Coyotes A team in dire need of a number one draft pick, Arizona is struggling in all departments. So far, the Coyotes have only scored 52 goals. While Max Domi is an exciting young talent, there are few of these prospects in Glendale. Their future has been up in the air for years out in the desert. Michael Grabner was underwhelming last season in Toronto. Although a decent penalty kill player, his low points total failed to endear him. Acquired as a free agent by the New York Rangers, Grabner has found his form again. Currently the Rangers third top scorer with 16 points, the Austrian is turning heads in the Big Apple. While Kevin Hayes and J.T Miller may be ahead in the points race, Grabner knows where the net is. This player might be the smartest signing the Rangers have made this year. So far, Grabner tops the goals scoring charts with 12 goals. While playing for the Islanders, heRead More →

Nail Yakupov was a healthy scratch for St Louis on Saturday. This was now the fifth time in eight games. Does the 22-year-old still merit a place in the NHL? In only 14 games, the Russian has only scored 4 points. The Blues appear to be losing patience with him. In his NHL career, this has become a recurring theme. After an underwhelming 4-year stint in Edmonton, the writing has been on the wall. The question for coach Ken Hitchcock will be whether or not to keep him? Yakupov has been unable to match the high expectations required as a number one pick. It was recentlyRead More →

Remember the Columbus Blue Jackets? Oh right, Rick Nash came from there! After losing their star player in 2013, it hasn’t been an easy ride for CBJ. However, in the last few year’s this team has shown signs of becoming more stable. In the last five years, Columbus has only made one trip to the postseason. With the right results, 2016-17 could merit another visit. The hiring of Head Coach John Tortorella in 2015 was met with a mixed reception. JT’s style of management has never been everyone’s cup of tea. Outspokenness and public shaming of players have caused friction in past jobs. Although heRead More →

Being number two is always a hard job, but someone’s gotta do it. These backup goalies might not get the same acclaim as Carey Price or Henrik Lundqvist, but they are still essential. Some members on this list have a case to be starting for their respective teams. Here are the NHL’s top 5 backup goalies. 1. Matt Murray: Pittsburgh Penguins Windsor, Ontario native Matt Murray was instrumental in helping Pittsburgh win last years’ Stanley Cup.  After an injury to Marc-Andre Fleury, Murray stepped in and finished with an impressive 21-15-6 record and a 2.08 GAA. Some might argue Murray should have been awarded theRead More →

The Vancouver Canucks are being served chilled this year. With nine straight losses, their record now stands at an abysmal 4-8-1. The year started with a bang after four straight wins in October. Although fans were jubilant, they set an NHL record for never leading during regulation time. After losing 4-2 the New York Islanders last night, it appears change is drastically needed. So when precisely did the rot set in? Well, it could be said that it began during an unproductive offseason which saw Loui Eriksson handed a massive $36 million contract over six years and Jim Benning‘s reluctance to pursue the bigger names ofRead More →
