In a move that would have made Jerry Springer proud, the Florida Panthers have kicked head coach Gerard Gallant to the curb. After the Panthers lost 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes, Gallant was literally shown the door to the PNC Arena and was seen unemployed and waiting for a taxi. Assistant coach Mike Kelly was also dismissed. This is a cowardly ignominious move by the Panthers organisation. The Panthers may currently be fifth in the Atlantic division, but we’re 22 games into an 82 game season. Gallant took the team to the playoffs last season with a franchise best 103 points. Roy Conacher‘s departure from the Detroit Red Wings left the number 9 available and it was offered to a young Gordie Howe. Howe accepted the number not because of any historical or personal significance,Read More →

When the Tampa Bay Lightning face off against the Detroit Red Wings on October 13th, coach Jon Cooper will face the dilemma of which goalie to start between the pipes. Ben Bishop has the experience, but Andrei Vasilevskiy is the future face of goaltending in Tampa Bay, and is by no means just Bishop’s back-up. So which goalie does Cooper go with on opening night? Bishop’s career stats are better overall, although the 29 year old American is seven years older than his Russian colleague and six more NHL seasons’ worth of experience. Here are the pairs’ basic NHL statistics as of the end ofRead More →
