The St Louis Blues are off to a fast start this season. Second in the Western Conference and now one the NHL’s most potent attacking forces. However, part of this success is down to 25-year-old Saskatchewan native Jaden Schwartz. Due to Vladimir Tarasenko‘s brilliance on the ice- many tend to ignore the importance this young man has to this team. In 2017-18 Schwartz is emerging as one of St Louis’ vital elements.
Let me start by saying that I understand he has never not been a key player for this franchise. While he’s an alternate captain, Schwartz has always come across as a solid pro. This season he is by far the main threat on the ice for the Blues. Currently, level with Connor McDavid on 32 points- this guy looks set for a career season. He might not be hitting the same heights as Kucherov, but you can’t deny he’s impressing. Only 5 points separate him and seven other players from Art Ross glory.
Locked into a three-way fight with both Brayden Schenn and Tarasenko- Schwartz is outscoring them by a meager three points. Plus-minus is also another strong element of his game this season. Right now he holds the joint first best record with +19- ironically he is level with his fellow Blues teammate Schenn. Again Tarasenko is hovering close by with +17!
A fierce competitor, Schwartz is a guy who always likes to have the puck. Boasting a fearlessness on the ice along with a high energy level, he has been one of the real surprise packages this year. St Louis has dealt with a lot of injuries so far this season. As a result, they have needed someone to step up and Schwartz has definitely been that man. Already having two 25 goal seasons- this season could bring far more goals. In the last seven games, he has only failed to score one.
Truly upping his game this season- anyone who included this guy in their fantasy team should be very excited. St Louis is a team that deserves a big reward this season. Perhaps this is the guy they should look to!
