The Pacific Division is always a difficult one to predict at the best of times. This season will be no exception, especially with a shortened season in hand. The winner of this division will be hard to predict as over the last few seasons teams have made key upgrades. Let’s take a look at the contenders in our midst. Anaheim Ducks On The Christmas List: Draft lottery favor The Ducks will be hoping to improve on an underwhelming 6th place in 2019-20. Their off-season acquisitions have been quieter than fans would’ve liked, but let’s not forget they are rebuilding. Kevin Shattenkirk was signed on a 3-yearRead More →

The guys are back to talk about all that happened at the 2018 NHL draft weekend. But first, Carl say Jurassic World. Would actually cloning dinosaurs be that terrible of an idea? We might find out. Carl’s real team and “former” bandwagon team made a deal as Brooks Orpik and Philipp Grubauer head to the Colorado Avalanche. Does this make Carl happy? Will this help the Washington Capitals sign John Carlson? (5 minutes after recording ended, we found out the answer) The New York Islanders brought in Barry Trotz and had a great draft. Is that enough to get John Tavares to stay? Ilya KovlachukRead More →

Last night the Calgary Flames put goalie Eddie Lack on waivers. So far, the 29-year-old Swede has struggled in 2017-18. Posting a 1-2 record with a massive 5.29 GAA in less than 4 games in Calgary you have to wonder what exactly happened to this once highly touted stopper? The Swede has gone from being a diamond in the rough to an outcast within 5 years. Embed from Getty Images Back in 2013, Lack burst onto the scene at the Vancouver Canucks. Impressing early on, he gave great competition to Roberto Luongo for the starting job. While his more experienced teammate struggled, the rookie lookedRead More →

It’s rare on these pages to see an article complaining that a player’s suspension is too long, but hear me out. On Wednesday the 15th; this happened in the game between the Calgary Flames and the Detroit Red Wings: After the Flames’ Brett Kulak got his gloves and stick up in the face of Red Wings winger David Booth‘s face, offseason addition Luke Witkowski decided to physically educate Kulak on why he considered his behaviour to be inappropriate in the modern game of hockey. After flooring Kulak, Witkowski then called out Travis Hamonic but the officials kept the two separate. For his troubles, Witkowski wasRead More →

Did we really think 2017-18 would a Jagr free season? Yesterday the 45-year-old signed a 1-year deal with the Calgary Flames. Although there were concerns about his age, Jagr continually proves his scoring touch. Currently, the Czech winger needs only 57 games to break the all-time appearances record. Calgary will be his ninth stop on a career that has been long and fruitful. With a Hall of Fame induction guaranteed- what does he bring to the Saddledome? Who Should Pay For Calgary’s New Arena?

The Scotiabank Saddledome has been home to the Calgary Flames since it opened in 1983, and when the Detroit Red Wings move to their new home at the end of the season, the Saddledome will be the second oldest house in the NHL after Madison Square Garden. The Saddledome, which isn’t in any way a dome, has seen better days and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says it’s time Flames had a new arena. During a press conference in Calgary regarding the new arena Bettman called the Saddledome an “old, antiquated, inefficient building”. Because new expensive things fix everything. This is not the first time BettmanRead More →

The Calgary Flames have long been a team that are considered by many as irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. One time Stanley Cup winners back in the 80s, very little of note since. 2016/17 looked to be no different as the team approached the season with contract struggles. New goaltender Brian Elliott had a worrisome introduction to life in Alberta. Brian Elliot conceded 10 goals in two games; is he: — The 4th Line Podcast (@4thLinePodcast) October 19, 2016 As 2016 rolled over into 2017 the Flames looked a lot like, well, the Flames. When the Calgary Flames traded a couple of picks for Brian Elliott, they probably thought they were getting a .930, 2.07 Goals-Against-Average (GAA) goalie from St. Louis. After conceding ten goals in two games, Elliott is looking at a .818 SV% and 5.08 GAA. Unsurprisingly, Chad Johnson started started the next two games, including the Flames’ win over the Buffalo Sabres. So what’s going on? After sharing goaltending duties with Jake Allen in St. Louis, Elliott was traded at the draft for a 2016 second round pick and a conditional 2018 third round pick. Now Elliott’s ambition to be the number one goalie in CalgaryRead More →
