The first quarter of the NHL season for the Buffalo Sabres has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. With a new head coach (Ralph Krueger) with limited NHL experience, who could predict realistically how the team would start. Despite added defenders, the forward group was largely the same. Fans were excited with the their ability to win games off the hop but I feel most involved in the world of advanced stats saw the Sabres coming down to Earth. What can I say about the Buffalo Sabres that has not been said? Last season’s second half plunge resulted in a coach firing as the entire team looked out of sync. With a new head coach in Ralph Krueger, fans hope that someone can finally get this group to be on the same page. Even with more additions than subtractions, I find it hard to forecast significant change in the near-term. The Hart Trophy: the National Hockey League’s prize for Most Valuable Player. Unlike the Art Ross and Rocket Richard Awards, the Hart is a subjective honor voted on by the media. As the regular season closes, Boston Bruins forward, Brad Marchand, garners attention. The Bruins top the Eastern Conference with 103 points with Marchand leading the way for the club (34-50-84). After Sunday afternoon’s matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers, there should be some debate over disgusting plays he imposes on others. Foul Play Despite his significance to the Bruins success, Brad Marchand continues to be the center of negative attention. During yesterday’s game, the 29Read More →

Brad Marchand’s Ban Should Include The All-Star Game

The Boston Bruins winger and professional agitator Brad Marchand has been banned for five games following his elbow to the face of New Jersey’s Marcus Johansson. Seems the age-old defense of ‘I didn’t want him to hit me so I hit him first’ doesn’t get the charges dropped. Here’s the NHL’s Department of Inconsistent Decisions’ ruling. Now the length of the ban isn’t what’s annoyed me here (for once), it’s that the ban doesn’t include the All-Star Game this weekend, the NHL’s annual fundraiser/distraction. This feels like further reinforcement that the NHL has lost touch and is pandering to the dollar before its own integrity.Read More →
