The Hart Trophy: the National Hockey League’s prize for Most Valuable Player. Unlike the Art Ross and Rocket Richard Awards, the Hart is a subjective honor voted on by the media. As the regular season closes, Boston Bruins forward, Brad Marchand, garners attention. The Bruins top the Eastern Conference with 103 points with Marchand leading the way for the club (34-50-84). After Sunday afternoon’s matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers, there should be some debate over disgusting plays he imposes on others. Foul Play Despite his significance to the Bruins success, Brad Marchand continues to be the center of negative attention. During yesterday’s game, the 29Read More →

After the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2 win over Winnipeg, debut goalie Scott Foster was named 1st star. Despite only playing 14 minutes, Foster saved all seven shots he faced. While this might be his only NHL appearance, Foster has shown everyone you never give up. Chicago is currently facing a severe goalie crisis. Corey Crawford and Anton Forsberg are out through injury. Foster was signed to as an emergency backup. Before this game, the 36-year-old had played college hockey for WMU from 2002-2006. Before this game, he had been working an accountant. When starter Collin Delia went out, Foster was forced into action. He now holdsRead More →

Contract years are typically when NHL players overachieve as a significant pay day is in sight. Is it a motive behind Buffalo Sabres’ winger, Evander Kane’s, performance through 34 games (14 goals, 31 points)? The last time that the upcoming free agent faced a contract renewal, he contributed 30 goals and 57 points (2012). And if this is a reason for Kane being the most productive player, what is the issue with Sam Reinhart? Should he be in that company for the 30th placed team to impress the new management and coaching staff? Before the season began, I wrote about how the 2017-18 season shouldRead More →

Dale Weise has added to the Philadelphia Flyers woes by getting himself suspended after an illegal check to the head of Anaheim’s Korbinian Holzer. Weise was suspended three games and forfeits $39, 166,68. Please take a moment to watch the video below.   Aside from begging the question ‘why can’t the Flyers control their own skaters’, Weise’s suspension once again highlights the the ridiculously lenient punishments handed out for illegal hits to the head. Before we change tack, it’s worth remembering that Weise is a repeat offender. In September 2013 he was suspended three games for an illegal hit to the head on Taylor Hall,Read More →

There’s nothing like going into another team’s house and beating them on their own ice, in front of their fans. But road trips are a double-edged sword. Sometimes you can see the sights that a new city has to offer, other times it’s just a blur of airports, hotel rooms, buses and hockey rinks. Thousands of miles away from your fans, friends and loved ones. Some prolonged road trips are self inflicted. The New York Rangers started the 2013-14 season with a nine game road trip, as renovations to Madison Square Gardens were still being completed. The Rangers went 3-6-0 in a trip they’d probablyRead More →
